Celina Jaitly says she begged Peter Haag for an amicable separation
A year after moving back to Mumbai, Celina Jaitly wrote on Instagram that her estranged husband Peter Haag refused her plea for a peaceful separation, and named Lara Dutta among those who can vouch for her as a mother.
Celina Jaitly has written that she begged her estranged husband, Austrian businessman Peter Haag, to agree to an amicable separation and was turned down. The actor shared the account on Instagram with photos of her children, one year after she landed in Mumbai.
She arrived on 12 October last year with a ticket paid for on a credit card and one suitcase. In it were legal files, her late mother's saree and, in her words, heartbreak. In early September 2025, she wrote, she was driven to a post office expecting a gift for their 15th wedding anniversary. It turned out to be a divorce notice.
At their first hearing, the judge gave the couple until November to settle things amicably. Celina says she promised to keep the "abuse and trauma" out of court if they parted peacefully for the children. She was told to speak to his lawyers, and to work as a cleaner if she could not pay her legal fees.
The next day, she alleged, a legal notice laid claim to her premarital assets. She wrote that she was told she could not leave Austria after the divorce if she wanted access to her children, and that even her scolding of the kids was being recorded to paint her as an unfit mother.
With help from neighbours, Celina left at 1 a.m. and spent a week in a hotel, talking to her children over Zoom. All contact stopped the day she went to court to reclaim her assets, she says, and efforts to take away her joint custody continue.
Actor Lara Dutta and TV star Dimpy Ganguly are among the witnesses she named to her dedication as a mother. "Yet I await justice," she wrote.
The couple married in Hyderabad in 2010 and have twin sons born in 2012 and a younger son born in 2017. Celina filed for divorce in a Mumbai court in November 2025 and has alleged domestic violence in the case.
