Abhishek Bachchan up for Kajra Re 2.0, says Aishwarya and his dad need convincing

Abhishek Bachchan says he is ready for a fresh take on 'Kajra Re', the 2005 dance number he shared with his father Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. There is one catch, though. By his own account, the other two will need some persuading.

The song was part of Shaad Ali's Bunty Aur Babli, the film that first brought Amitabh and Abhishek together on screen. Aishwarya appeared in a cameo for the number and married Abhishek two years later. More than two decades on, the track still has a huge fan following.

In a recent interview, Abhishek said he could not remember having more fun filming any song. "It was just one big happy party," he said, and added that the team celebrated his birthday on set during the shoot. He explained that Shaad simply played the track and let everyone dance for about four hours while he filmed. Some of those carefree moments of the cast letting loose ended up in the final song.

Abhishek said the song has reached "cult status" and that the shoot left him with great memories. When asked about a 2.0 version with all three of them, he did not hold back. "I'm down for that. I'd love it. You have got to convince Aishwarya and my dad, though," he said.

In the film, Abhishek played a con artist who teams up with Rani Mukerji, while Amitabh played the cop on their trail, and the two finally face off near the end. The song was composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, sung by Alisha Chinai, Shankar Mahadevan and Javed Ali, and choreographed by Vaibhavi Merchant. Not everyone backed it at first. Amitabh reportedly felt it would not work, and the song was reportedly ranked last in an internal marketing review before it went on to become a massive hit.

As for his next release, Abhishek is reportedly awaiting King, directed by Siddharth Anand and led by Shah Rukh Khan. The film is reportedly set to reach theatres on December 24.
