Prince Mahesh Babu’s Businessman has hit the screens today amidst unprecedented frenzy and hype. The movie has been directed by Puri Jagan and this is the first time Mahesh and Puri have come together after the record breaking Pokiri. Kajal is the heroine in this film. Let us see how the movie stacks up. Surya (Mahesh Babu) is an extremely intelligent and ambitious man who comes to Mumbai with a burning desire to become the most powerful Mafia Don of the city. He comes in at a time when Mumbai commissioner Bharadwaj (Nasser) proudly claims to have wiped out the “Bhai’s” from the city. Surya sets about achieving his objectives in a methodical and calculated manner by grabbing power from the grassroots in a clever and innovative manner. He allies with a local politician Laloo (Shayaji Shinde) and helps him gain power. From then on starts Surya's rise as the most influential Don in India. In the meantime, he is also in love with Chitra (Kajal), who happens to be the daughter of Bharadwaj. Surya's meteoric rise is not taken easily by opposing politicians(led by Prakash Raj) and they start scheming to bring him down. Prakash Raj and Surya also share a past. What is it? Will Surya realize his dreams? That is the story. Mahesh Babu is simply amazing in the role of Surya. His dialogue delivery and expressions will send a tingle down your spine. He exudes pure menace when giving a 'dhamki' to his opponents. He has shown nice variations in his performance. And he looks stunningly handsome as usual. Mahesh Babu shoulders this movie on his own. The swagger, the attitude and his panache will be a big draw. Kajal Aggarwal looks gorgeous as Chitra and she has some interesting moments with Mahesh Babu. She does not have much scope for performance however. Puri Jagan is the other invisible hero of the movie. Take a bow sir, for some of the best dialogues seen in recent times. Each dialogue explodes like a bullet and when delivered by Mahesh Babu, the result is devastatingly effective. The movie is high on entertainment factor and there is hardly a boring moment in the film. The sequences where Mahesh Babu sets about establishing his dominance are highly innovative. All the songs have been picturized well but 'Sir Osthara' song and 'Chandamama' stand out for their sheer beauty. The much talked about kiss with Kajal has been shot very beautifully and aesthetically. Shwetha Bharadwaj has sizzled in the item number. She has a bright future in the industry. Nazar, Prakash Raj and Shayaji Shinde are ok. Businessman is Mahesh Babu's show all the way. And what a show it is. He just towers over the movie with his sheer presence and he is aided by some incredible dialogues from Puri Jagan. The film is high on entertainment quotient. Ignore some of the illogical sequences and the holes in the plots and you are in for a highly enjoyable ride. This is as good as paisa vasool entertainers get. Go and have fun with your friends this weekend. You will enjoy this flick.

The most awaited film of the year has arrived. This is the mass hysteria that seldom covers entire state. While Mahesh Babu is on the apex of stardom with the industry super hit Dookudu on one hand, Puri Jagannath is on top gaining national reputation after directing ‘Bbuddah Hoga Tera Baap’. Despite his last Telugu film, Nenu Na Rakshasi’ couldn’t do well, the expectations of audience on the combination of Puri and Mahesh (reminding Pokiri) are always on high. Let us see how this film that released in maximum number of theatres entertains the audience. Mumbai city commissioner Ajay Bharadwaj (Nasser) announces in a Press meet that mafia dons are wiped out from the map of Mumbai. He also states that he would break the leg if any don steps in Mumbai. Instantly Surya (Mahesh Babu) steps in Mumbai. His friend (Brahmaji) takes him to his room in slum. Surya asks him to quit job and join him as an assistant to do his proposed crime business. He also says that he is in Mumbai to make it piss. How he emerges as a don falls rest of the story. He uses his brain and brawn to grow big in Mumbai. He plays with system and preys on politicians to grow his business. On parallel line he loves Chitra (Kajal), the daughter of commissioner. Story wise, it's simple but the narration beauty is ample and dialogues tremble the senses of audience. Rest should be watched on screen. Mahesh Babu is all over the film. He charms with his style, scares with his intensity and strikes with his looks. His dialogue delivery is another high asset to the film. Kajal Agarwal does her bit as required. She provides glamour where required and sheds tears when wanted. As such, her characterisation is not that strong but she provides some visual relief. Prakash Raj was not used to his potential. In fact, his arrival comes rather late in the film and before he can pick up he is packed up. But those little moments he was there he made his presence felt. Nasser was natural. His scenes with Mahesh Babu were effective and both shared a good chemistry. It is inspiring to see Nasser maintaining strong biceps even at this age. Sayaji Shinde was standard. Brahmaji was usual. Dharmavarapu was contained. The girl doing the role of Kajal’s friend was funny. Shweta Bharadwaj sizzled in her item song. The others didn’t have much scope. Finally Subba Raju made his presence but the scope and span of his character is limited. Last but not least Puri Jagannadh appears as a taxi driver in a scene.

A film like “Businessman” is a cause for celebration, simply because it does away with forced comic interjections in the narrative. For once, the comedy in a mainstream Telugu flick is all situational without being slapstick. The humor is dry and loaded with sarcasm, taking pot shots on everything under the sun, but does the job nevertheless evoking peals of laughter. Kudos to director Puri Jagannath for coming up with those lines. And then there is Mahesh Babu, in full flow at that. “Round off chesi confuse cheyalanukuntunnara. Confusion lo inka ekkuva kottestha... ” goes a punch dialogue. “Matladaniki vacchanu kabatti, manasaupurthy ga kottatledu...” goes another. As far humor goes it is definitely a step up. Some would say that the punch dialogues in “Businessman” are even better, wackier and quirkier than “Pokiri”. The must haves of a Mahesh Babu pot-boiler are dutifully ticked off, rather well at that. Five minutes into the film, you get the feeling you are going to enjoy this one, and the feeling stays on till the end. Mahesh plays Surya Bhai, who moves to Mumbai with a single point agenda — that of becoming the undisputed don of the business capital’s underworld. It happens to be a time when Mumbai is enjoying a relatively crime-free phase with all the mafia kingpins being nabbed, much to the glee of Nassar, the commissioner of Police. His happiness proves to be short lived as Surya begins to recruit all the goons in the city. He calls his gang Surya Exports and Imports. He soon starts to cut deals with all and sundry — small time businessmen to the biggest politicians, even the Prime Minister. He corporatizes the whole business of mafia and gradually grows to become a rule unto himself. He has a little flashback too which is revealed towards the end. Chitra (Kajal Aggarwal) is the daughter of the Police Commissioner. She also happens to be Surya’s love interest. The much-hyped lip-lock also turns out fine. “Businessman” is a typical Puri Jagannath film loaded with attitude and style. The narrative moves along at a breakneck speed hardly giving you time to catch your breath. The action is gritty and realistic without going overboard. The leading lady, Kajal plays the eye-candy to perfection, albeit not having the ‘Ileana’ kind of impact in “Pokiri”. Guess you cannot help but compare this one to the 2006 blockbuster, for this is the first time Puri and Mahesh have come together since “Pokiri”. As far as the performances go, Mahesh takes the cake. He had the author- backed role but, still enlivens the whole movie with an intense performance. The climax scene is especially rivetting as Mahesh switches from anger to comedy effortlessly. This must be one of his best performances if not the best. Mahesh literally carries the film from the start to the end. The supporting cast including Sayaji Shinde, Prakash Raj and Subba Raju do justice to their roles. Music by Thaman is good and the background score stands out, amplifying the experience. The film scores high on production values and visual imagery.
