Govind Namdev
Govind Namdev, also credited as Govind Namdeo, is a Hindi film actor whose screen image rests mostly on villains and stern, menacing characters. Film lovers recognise him from Satya, Sarfarosh, Bandit Queen and Oh My God, and he also took a supporting part in Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana (2017). His acting life began on stage, where he spent roughly 12 to 13 years as a member of the National School of Drama repertory company. He moved to cinema in 1992 with David Dhawan's Shola Aur Shabnam, playing a police officer who had turned dishonest. Over the years that followed, he worked in a wide range of Hindi films. Virasat and Kachche Dhaage gave him strong parts, and he was also seen in Pukar, Mast, Thakshak and Satta. Raju Chacha and Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani added to his body of work. His other films include Dum Maro Dum, Johny Gadhaar, Qayamat, Main Madhuri Dixit Banna Chahti Hoon and Kaashi in Search of Ganga. In 2017 he appeared in Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana. Namdev is valued for bringing weight and threat to negative roles, a skill shaped by his long years of theatre work. Directors have turned to him again and again when a story needs a believable antagonist, and he remains a familiar face for Hindi film audiences.
