Nani's The Paradise Posts Career-Best Opening, Then Dips Sharply on Monday

Nani's period action drama The Paradise has given the actor the biggest opening of his career, but its first Monday brought a steep fall in collections. The Srikanth Odela film reached theatres after a long delay, carried by strong pre-release buzz and the star's pull with audiences.

The film reportedly began with paid premieres on Thursday that earned ₹11.60 crore, followed by ₹34.65 crore on Friday, its first full day. That took the opening total to ₹46.25 crore. Reports say the first weekend worldwide gross came to around ₹135 crore, even with negative talk around the film.

Monday was always going to be the real test. According to reports, the film collected ₹5 crore net in India on Day 5 across 5,804 shows, a drop of 68.2 per cent from ₹15.70 crore the day before. The Telugu version brought in ₹4.10 crore of that, with Hindi adding ₹75 lakh and Tamil ₹15 lakh.

The India net total now reportedly stands at ₹97.10 crore, with India gross at ₹114.85 crore. Overseas gross has reached ₹30 crore, taking the worldwide gross to ₹144.85 crore. In North America alone, the film is said to have crossed 2 million in gross, much of it from a strong premiere showing.

The picture across regions is mixed. Nizam has been exceptional, with a reported share of ₹27.04 crore excluding GST against a sale price of ₹35 crore, and the film could break even there by the end of its second weekend. Andhra Pradesh has much more ground to cover over the coming week.

For the full run, the film reportedly needs a share of ₹117.7 crore including GST, or around ₹220 crore gross, to break even. Its worldwide share so far is said to be ₹70.35 crore excluding GST. The Paradise is produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri and Ishan Saksena under Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Cinemas and IVY Entertainment.
