Netflix released the trailer of Gajab Raat on Thursday. It is the renamed Manoj Bajpayee thriller first announced as Ghooskhor Pandat, and it premieres on October 23 after a legal fight over its old title.
Netflix dropped the trailer of Gajab Raat on Thursday. The Manoj Bajpayee crime thriller was first announced as Ghooskhor Pandat, and it premieres on the platform on October 23.
Screenwriter Ritesh Shah directs for the first time, with Neeraj Pandey producing. Bajpayee plays a police officer who takes up the case of a young girl thrown out of a car. The whole story happens in one night. Bribes keep coming his way, and the trailer shows him stuck between his duty and his own gain.
Saqib Saleem, Akshay Oberoi, Divya Dutta, Kiku Sharda and Nushrratt Bharuccha complete the ensemble.
"I have always been drawn to characters who are not easy to define," Bajpayee said in a statement. He added that the film placed him in a world of suspense, moral dilemmas and questions of accountability. He called working with Pandey again after so long a wonderful experience.
The original title ran into trouble as soon as Netflix revealed its 2026 slate earlier this year. Critics on social media called it casteist and offensive. An FIR was registered against the makers at Hazratganj police station in Uttar Pradesh, and petitions to stop the release were filed in the Delhi High Court.
Pandey responded with a statement. He admitted the name had hurt a section of the audience and said all promotional material had been taken down. He described the project as a fictional cop drama in which 'Pandat' was only a colloquial name for one character. The matter then reached the Supreme Court, which said the film could not release until the makers changed its title.
