Avengers: Endgame Encore adds four new scenes that set up Avengers: Doomsday

Marvel Studios has put Avengers: Endgame back on the big screen as Avengers: Endgame Encore, and the 2019 blockbuster now carries four new scenes. The extra material runs only a few minutes. It was shot during the making of Avengers: Doomsday and is designed to lead straight into that film, which opens on December 18.

The first addition extends the closing moments between Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell). There is a knock at their door, and the visitor turns out to be Loki (Tom Hiddleston) in his Time Variance Authority uniform. The scene hints that Steve's choice to stay in the past may have opened a branch of the multiverse that now needs attention.

Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom leads two of the new scenes. In one, Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) is hiding in an underground bunker, working on a serum to keep the Hulk in check, when Doom arrives and tells him he has come to collect him. Bruce turns into the Hulk, and the scene cuts away before the outcome is shown. Fans are now asking whether Bruce will appear in Doomsday and whether Doom has plans for him.

Another scene returns to the TVA, where Mobius (Owen Wilson), Ouroboros (Ke Huy Quan), Casey (Eugene Cordero) and Miss Minutes watch two Earths on a collision course, firing at each other. Soon more worlds begin crashing together. Reports say one of them is the universe of the Fox X-Men films, which fits with Doomsday bringing Professor Xavier, Magneto, Cyclops, Mystique, Nightcrawler and Gambit into the MCU.

The final scene shows Doom hammering his metal mask into shape. The clanging matches the sound at the end of the original Endgame credits, which fans tied to Tony Stark building his first suit in a cave in Iron Man (2008). With Downey Jr. playing both men, the moment places the two side by side.

Early reactions are mixed. Some critics feel the Loki scene in particular builds a solid base for Doomsday, while others question how neatly the new footage sits inside the original film. Viewers mostly call the additions a fun setup rather than anything groundbreaking, and Endgame itself remains largely the film audiences saw in 2019.
