Akshara Haasan says her parents never pushed her into acting
Akshara Haasan says her parents never pressured her or her sister Shruti Haasan to become actors, and reveals she started as a choreographer and assistant director with plans to direct.
Akshara Haasan has made it clear that acting was never a family obligation. Speaking to the media, the daughter of Kamal Haasan said her parents never pushed her or her sister, Shruti Haasan, to step in front of the camera just because of the family they were born into.
In fact, acting was not even where her career began. Akshara revealed that her very first job was not as an actor, and not even as an assistant director, but as a choreographer. She started out with music videos, creating dance routines for friends who were dancers themselves.
Direction was always the bigger goal. Akshara explained that she took up work as an assistant director because she wanted to become a filmmaker. Acting came later, and she described it as something she felt she had to try at least once before ruling it out. She added that she still firmly wants to work behind the camera.
On the subject of family expectations, Akshara said there was never a message at home that being the daughters of actors meant the two sisters had to become actors too. According to her, their parents told them plainly that they did not have to take that path. They would offer suggestions, but the final choice stayed with the sisters, and if they did not want to act, they were free to do whatever they wanted.
Akshara said that freedom made a real difference to both of them. In her words, it helped "take the weight off our shoulders", letting each sister pick her own direction instead of chasing a career out of a sense of duty.
For fans, the message is simple. Akshara is an actor by choice and a director at heart. Her journey so far, from choreographing music videos to assisting on film sets to acting, shows a career she has shaped on her own terms.
