Needa

Story

Since an accident, District Magistrate John Bobby (Kunchacko Boban) begins to experience strange occurrences. He undergoes treatment with a psychiatrist while off duty due to the trauma caused by the accident. During a conversation with his close friend, psychiatrist Shalini (Divya Prabha), Shalini mentions one instance in particular that piques his interest.After reading his horror narrative, Bobby expresses curiosity in meeting Nitin (Izin Hush), a young pupil who scares not just the entire school but also himself with his horror stories. Bobby persuades Sharmila (Nayanathara), a single mother of Nitin, to meet her son with the help of Shalini and a lot of persuasion. Bobby discovers, much to his surprise, that the horror stories are not fiction but rather true events after interacting with the young child Nitin.Bobby and Sharmila decide to go into the matter and uncover some disturbing revelations. 

Review

Starting with Kunchacko Boban's performance in Needa the lead actor does an excellent work with what he's given alongside Nayanthara in her eleventh Malayalam film. The supporting cast, notably Izin Hash as Nitin, performed a phenomenal job. 

In terms of plot, the picture maintains an average level of suspense throughout its runtime by passing itself off as a supernatural film.After a strong first half, the second half focuses more on the mystery, but the conclusion fails to live up to all of the buildup, and the film finishes on a disappointing note. 

On a more bright side, Needa's production design was outstanding, with realistic locations and magnificent Hogenakkal scenery, and Deepak D. Menon's cinematography was outstanding. Sooraj S. Kurup's music was a little cheesy, with a flat and theatrical tone, and it didn't contribute much style to the film. 

Verdict

Needa on AHA was watchable to some extents if you didn't have anything else to do. On a lazy Wednesday, the suspense aspect of the film makes for an excellent evening movie.
