On the whole, Hulchul has an interesting storyline that is spoilt by some bad screenplay and dull narration. The thrills needed for such stories is missing in the film completely. Except for a few comedy scenes, this film has nothing exciting and ends as a boring watch this weekend.

Though the trailer of Hulchul doesn't impress you with its edit, the film as a whole is definitely an entertaining one to watch. With a decent and thrilling storyline that never deviates, director Sripathy Karri pulls off Hulchul for the most part. Rudra, who is returning to India from Dubai after a long time to meet his mother (Preeti Nigam) carries a bottle of Hulchul and a banknote with a code for an expensive hawala transaction, given by his friend Krishnudu. But things turn severe when he drinks the Hulchul while thirsting for alcohol. He begins hallucinating his college crush Swathi (Dhanya Balakrishna), loses the banknote and is chased by goons who need it. Hulchul is surprisingly devoid of cliché content that is usually found in suspense-comedies. It adheres to the script and Sripathy Karri manages to pull off the film with minimal flaws. The film is definitely no edge-of-the-seat thriller but still manages to stay gripping. Bharat Madhusudhana’s BGM and soothing melodies add to the film. Rudraksh and Preeti Nigam also do a good job. The film however suffers from a little lag due to scenes that feel repetitive. Scenes between Rudraksh and Preeti Nigam generate boredom and Dhanya’s acting needs improvement. Despite the flaws, Hulchul is definitely worth a watch because it attempts to tell a different kind of tale. If you are someone who enjoys suspense dramas, give this one a try this weekend.
