Kalpana comes from a wealthy family, and her father disapproves when she marries Rajesh, a poor painter. To needle him, she writes home that Rajesh has become rich and now owns a bungalow and a car. None of it is true, and Rajesh knows nothing about it.
When her parents announce a visit to celebrate the birth of their grandson, Kalpana has to make the story look real. She rents a house and a car for two days and looks for someone to pose as her husband. Rajesh, hurt but still devoted, is pulled into the mess as the pretence gets harder to hold together.
