Story

Kabir (Kunal Kapoor) is a renowned author of a motivational best seller book. As he is unable to write the sequel to his book, his publisher and ex-wife (Vidya Malwade) give him a legal ultimatum. To sue him, she wants to find out Kabir's deep dark secrets and also hire a detective cum reporter Ricky Rozario (Karim Hajee) and blackmail him. Kabir on the other hand meets a young backpacker Suhana (Amyra Dastur) when he was on his way to his bungalow in Panchgini. But followed by a spate of murders at the hill station, Kabir becomes the main suspect. What happens next? forms the rest of the story.

Review

The convoluted and twisted tale starts confusing the audience from the first scene itself. Just when the first half is building up slowly, the shaky and boring narration makes it underwhelming for the audience to continue watching the film. The major conflicts of the film will be established in the first half itself. Though the proceedings will give some tension to the audience, the director has left the film abruptly with so many loose ends. By the end of the film, the audience will be packed with so many unanswered questions which is the biggest setback.

Director Amin Hajee utterly failed to execute the story properly. He gave importance to the unnecessary scenes and completely left some important points. Most of the characters are underdeveloped and don't make much sense in this story. The dialogues are average. The production values are decent. The camera work is hazy in some sequences and we can say that the cinematography is below the mark. Even the music also failed to save the film from drowning. Editing is very weak.

Kunal Kapoor despite getting a confusing character succeeded in delivering his best performance. Amyra Dastur is beautiful and impressive in her role. Both the actors have some scope to perform despite the weak screenplay and they did a convincing job. Ashwini Kalsekar is impactful in her role. Atul Kulkarni doesn't have much to do and his character got wasted. Some of the actors like Vidya Malvade, Karim Hajee acted well in the film but they got underdeveloped characters.

Verdict

'Koi Jaane Na' is a mediocre thriller that doesn't give any thrills but has a predictable narrative and cliched sequences with Aamir Khan's special screen presence as the only plus point.
