Story

Haseen Dilruba revolves around a woman named Rani Kashyap, who moves to a small town after getting married to her husband Rishabh Saxena, who now has died brutally, and in mysterious circumstances. She is now the suspect in the investigation being run by a local police inspector. During this tedious process, the investigation slowly reveals shocking details about Rani's married life with her husband, and her extra-marital affair, who is absconding. This leads to further confusion within the police investigation. The true colours of all the characters are revealed as the story progresses. How the investigation is solved, and what will be the verdict of Rani's innocence form the crux of the story.

Review

This movie at first glance is a sight to behold. It is goofy at the beginning, where Rani and Rishabh are awkward but endearing, and they get married to each other. After Rani moves into her husband's house, things start taking a turn for the worse. There are moments where the marriage feels like a compromise, where Rani behaves as if everything is going on swell with her love life and sex life in general, but that is not the case. Now, as things start boiling over, the entry of Neel Tripathi occurs. Rani immediately forgets the fact that she is legally married to a man, and goes on to commit adultery. This is the part where things start going south for the film. Rani's character, in general, lacks consistency, and the script, in general, feels like it was written on a whim without second thoughts. The investigation feels bland and unnecessary- it doesn't add a lot to the story. It could have been omitted to a great extent. Taapsee was a great actor who was given an underwhelming script, and a shoddy protagonist role. The most commendable role here was performed by Vikrant Massey. He does a beautiful job at depicting all the dark emotions Rishabh feels. The supporting actors were also neglected and weren't given a good role. The technical aspects were good, but the movie as a whole feels like a disappointment.

In conclusion, this movie had the potential to be a juicy and thrilling crime mystery, but it falls short of this standard on spectacular levels.

Verdict

This movie could have been a fantastic addition to the good crime thriller collection, but unfortunately, it disappoints on colossal levels.
