Subbaraya Sharma

Subbaraya Sharma is a Telugu actor whose work moves across cinema, the stage and the small screen. Over five decades he has taken on both comic parts and character roles, and audiences remember him for Yamaleela (1994), Gangotri (2003) and Magadheera (2009). His top honour came from theatre: the Tri-Annual Best Actor award in 1989 for his performance in Onteddu Bandi, a play by L. B. Sriram. Sharma's early screen credits include Srivariki Premalekha (1984) and Bava Bava Panneeru (1989). He stayed busy through the following years, appearing in Matrudevobhava and Mayalodu in 1993, and in Top Hero, Yamaleela and Subha Lagnam in 1994. Ghatotkachudu (1995) and Dharma Chakram (1996) came next. In 2001 he was seen in Student No 1 and Manasantha Nuvve, and in 2003 he worked on both Simhadri and Gangotri before joining the cast of Magadheera (2009). His later films include Rudhramadevi (2015), Baahubali: The Beginning (2015), Vivaha Bhojanambu (2021) and SKYLAB (2021). In 2023 he also wrote lyrics for HIDIMBHA. Range is the mark of Sharma's career. He shifts easily between light comedy and serious supporting parts, and he has kept a strong link with the stage alongside his film and television work. The 1989 Tri-Annual Best Actor award for Onteddu Bandi stands as his major honour.
