The role in 3 Idiots brought Joshi the IIFA Award for Best Supporting Actor, which stands as the standout honour in a long list of film credits. Joshi first appeared on screen in supporting roles, starting with Godmother (1999) and going on to Lajja (2001). Style (2001) gave Joshi a breakthrough. A string of films that pleased both critics and the box office followed: Rang De Basanti and Golmaal – Fun Unlimited in 2006, then Dhol and Life in a... Metro in 2007. The success continued with 3 Idiots in 2009 and Ferrari Ki Sawaari in 2012. Hate Story 3 (2015) and Mission Mangal (2019) did well with audiences. In 2023 Joshi stepped into streaming with Kafas and also appeared in Music School and Aankh Micholi that year. Sikandar followed in 2025. Across a screen career that began in 1999, Joshi has collected several awards. Alongside the IIFA win for 3 Idiots, Joshi has earned two Filmfare Award nominations. Many viewers still link the name Sharman Joshi with the friendships and laughter of 3 Idiots and the youthful energy of Rang De Basanti.
