G. Neelakanta Reddy
G. Neelakanta Reddy is a Telugu film director and writer, credited on screen mostly as Neelakanta. He is best known for Show (2002), Missamma (2003) and Mr. Medhavi (2008). His most celebrated honour is the National Film Award he won for the screenplay of Show, one of two National Film Awards in his career. Neelakanta started in cinema as a producer, backing Jamadagni in 1988 and Priyanka in 1994. He then moved into direction with Show in 2002, a film whose writing brought him national recognition. He followed it with Missamma in 2003 and Sada Mee Sevalo in 2005, a film he also wrote. In 2006 he made Nandanavanam 120km, serving as its director, writer and producer. Mr. Medhavi came next in 2008, built on his own story and dialogue. He went on to direct Virodhi in 2011 and Chammak Challo in 2012. Neelakanta is known as a filmmaker who shapes his projects from the page up, often writing the story, screenplay or dialogue of the films he directs. His strength as a writer sits at the centre of his reputation in Telugu cinema. Along with his two National Film Awards, his work has earned him three Nandi Awards.
