Salim Merchant is an Indian music director and playback singer. Salim Merchant was born in Bhuj, Gujrat and brought up in Mumbai, India. He belongs to a Muslim family. He is the son of Sadruddin Merchant, who used to lead Ismaili Scouts Orchestra in India. Salim mastered the piano from the Trinity College of Music in London. Salim and Sulaiman emerged as popular music directors only in 2003, six years after their first music composition in a Bollywood film.
He got his first break with Karan Johar's film "Kaal". His big Hollywood moment came when he along with his brother Sulaiman composed music for the horror flick "Bhoot". After that, he has worked with well-known producers and directors like Yash Chopra, Subhash Ghai, and Ram Gopal Varma. He was also seen judging singing reality show Indian Idol Junior season 2. He is seen judging The Voice India on &Tv.
