The recently released survival drama, "2018," has created history in the realm of Malayalam cinema. Within a remarkable span of just 11 days, "2018" has become the fastest Malayalam film to cross the prestigious Rs 100 crore gross mark, surpassing the previous record set by Mohanlal's "Lucifer," which achieved this milestone in 12 days.
Not only that, but "2018" also holds the distinction of being the third highest-grossing Malayalam movie of all time, trailing only Mohanlal's "Pulimurugan" (Rs 137.75 Cr) and "Lucifer" (Rs 125.10 Cr). The film has overtaken Mammootty's "Bheeshma Parvam" (Rs 87.65 Cr) and Dulquer Salmaan's "Kurup" (Rs 83 Cr). Impressively, the film has amassed nearly Rs 50 crore in Kerala and the Rest of India, with an additional Rs 50 crore collected from overseas markets.
"2018" revolves around the devastating floods that ravaged various districts across Kerala in the year 2018. It serves as an inspiring survival drama, showcasing the brave efforts and sacrifices of citizens and government authorities in rescuing countless victims. With a stellar cast including Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, and Lal in lead roles, the film has been helmed by the talented director, Jude Anthany Joseph.
