    Story

Anabelle Sethupathi is a horror comedy which revolves around a woman named Rudra(Tapsee) who is a burglar. She plans to rob a deserted palace along with her family members. But right after entering the abandoned property she realises that she has special connection with the palace and the one who built it, Veera Sethupathi(Vijay Sethupathi). What is the back story about the palace? What happens to Rudra? Does she proceed forward with her plan? The answers to these questions form the crux of the story.

    Review

Anabelle Sethupathi is something which could have been a great thing, but it failed to achieve said greatness due to excess baggage. The actors are the glue which is holding this porous movie, and their hard work is commendable, their talent shines through. Taapsee shines with her lead role, she as always, does her job with absolute perfection. Vijay Sethupathi makes a very brief appearance in the film but he leaves a lasting impression with his fine performance. The flashback portions and the regular script flow was perfectly timed and arranged together, which was a positive point for the film, as good editing surely adds to the emotion of the story and helps the audience emotionally connect with the film. Some negative aspects of this film were the plot loops in the aspect of the ghosts. Their addition to the story seemed childish and not properly thought through. The director also messes up the cadence of this horror comedy by hastily patching in slapstick humor, which proves detrimental to the already crumbly plot. The narrative turns stale pretty fast after a while as the comedy routines keep repeating. The director Deepak Sunderrajan could have done a slightly more refined job with this script, but it looks like he gave up in the middle, which makes this movie a slight disappointment. The background score is decent, but the songs are not very impactful. The production department did a good job with the shooting sets, they look very realistic and of high quality.

All in all, this movie was a sub-standard horror comedy, which had the potential of being a very good one.

    Verdict

This movie is watchable, but it may be a disappointment to most viewers.
