    Story

Bell Bottom is a detective thriller film based on real-life hijacking incidents in India from back in the 1980s. It is inspired by horrid incidents like the Indian Airlines Flight 423, 405 and 421 hijackings.

The set of the film Bell bottom revolves around the year 1984. The plot of this film is about a renowned airlines' flight getting hijacked by Pakistani terrorists. The government at that time was entirely under the control of Indira Gandhi. She gets pressured into negotiating with the hijackers who control the lives of several people in their fists. A terrific detective who goes by the name Anshul then gets hired by the PM herself and is set off for this complicated case. As if his way of work wasn't eccentric enough, he requests the PM to stop all negotiations at once. He then handles everything from there and safely retrieves all passengers from the hijacked plane without any casualties. The fact how Detective Anshul achieves this immensely difficult task forms the crux of the film.

    Review

Bell bottom is a film that has the potential to stick its audience to their places till the end of the film. Firstly, let's talk about the performance of the actors. Akshay Kumar, as always, did justice for the role he was given He did a splendid job portraying the role of a sharp detective who had his moments of smugness. Lara Dutta, who portrayed the role of Indira Gandhi did a decent job. Her acting, costume and make-up were the high points of her role that are commendable. Vaani Kapoor and Huma Qureshi didn't have much screentime given their roles but they also did an excellent job with their candid way of acting.

The production unit of the film received absolute justice since the VFX and the camera work were incredible. It truly exhibited the essence of the '80s. Even the background score carried the entire film with its superior influence that makes the audience hook themselves to this film.

The negative aspects of this film are pretty much predictable. The first half of this film felt dragged and at a point, the story felt like it was going nowhere. It was only in the second half where we find the plot picking up its pace. Bell Bottom felt mundane as most of the plane hijacking films have similar plotlines with similar endings.

    Verdict

Bell Bottom is a visual thrilling treat for people who are into movie themes like this. Do consider watching this film if you're into semi-fictional thrillers.
