> Sohum Shah marked eight years of Tumbbad with official Halloween merchandise and spoke about the six years, the physical demands and the accent work that went into playing Vinayak Rao.

Sohum Shah has marked eight years of Tumbbad by launching official merchandise for the cult horror film in time for Halloween. He has also opened up about the six years he gave to playing Vinayak Rao.

The actor-producer announced the collection on Instagram and posted pictures of himself wearing the new pieces. The designs draw on the film's best-known lines, including "So Jaa Warna Hastar Aa Jayega" and "Lalchi Hai Tu", with artwork built around Hastar. He said the range is now on sale through Noise Culture.

Tumbbad released in 2018. Its folklore tale of greed and the mythical Hastar slowly found a devoted audience, and it now holds cult status.

He called it his dream project. He said he had to stay connected to Vinayak's mind for six years, which he described as rare when many actors finish a role in a month or two. Keeping the character's physique over that long stretch was hard, he added, because he was also shooting Talvar and Simran during that time.

The accent was another hurdle. Sohum grew up in a small town in Rajasthan near the Haryana border, so his natural speech has a strong Haryanvi touch. He worked at length on his diction to match the Marathi-influenced tone the film needed.

Vinayak, a flawed man driven by his hunger for wealth, is a part actors rarely get to play even once, Sohum said. He added that he will stay "as greedy as Hastar" for more roles like it.

Fans are now waiting for the sequel, Tumbbad 2.
