# The Vvaan review round-up: Sidharth and Tamannaah's folklore thriller splits opinion

Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia's The Vvaan reached theatres on September 25, and opinion on it is split. Audiences on X have mostly cheered the folklore fantasy thriller, while critics have been far more cautious. It is the first film in which the two stars share the screen.

Deepak Kumar Mishra, known for Panchayat, directs from a script by Arunabh Kumar, and Balaji Motion Pictures produces with TVF. Sidharth plays Rishi, a rational man settled in Mumbai with his wife Mamta, played by Tamannaah. A land deal pulls him back to his home village of Devanchal during Chhath Puja. There, a planned road threatens a sacred forest that villagers may not enter after sunset. The story is reportedly inspired by a real Van Devi temple in Bihta, near Patna.

Viewers on X praised the Indian folklore, the supernatural world and the visuals. Several posts gave the film four stars, and others called it "explosive" and "unpredictable", pointing to the climax and Sidharth's confident screen presence. Not every reaction was glowing, though. Some fans found the comedy flat and felt the songs slowed down the first half.

Most critics agreed that the premise is strong and the first half holds attention. Many felt the second half loses its grip as it moves between folklore, action, family drama, romance and comedy without finding a rhythm. Two reviews settled on 2.5 out of 5. The ghost gag involving Maniesh Paul and Sulbha Arya drew repeated complaints, and the brand placements were called out too. At least one review was much warmer and praised how sincerely the film treats faith and ritual.

Tamannaah was widely seen as the film's emotional anchor. Sunil Grover's turn as the antagonist got noticed, and Anup Soni and Shweta Tiwari were praised for grounded performances. Sidharth drew mixed notes: his physical energy in the action scenes won praise, while some felt the role was familiar.

The box office is next. Reports say a first day above 7.5 crore would give Sidharth his biggest opening as a solo hero.
