> Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia's fantasy thriller The Vvaan has gone past 50 crore net in India in its first week and is closing in on Marjaavaan's worldwide total.

Sidharth Malhotra and Tamannaah Bhatia's fantasy thriller The Vvaan has wrapped up its first week in theatres on a steady note. The film, directed by Deepak Mishra, has gone past the 50 crore net mark in India, despite mixed reviews from critics and audiences. It also marks Sidharth's return to the big screen.

The Vvaan opened at 8 crore on its first Friday and peaked on Sunday with 14.35 crore, still its best single day. Collections held up through the weekdays, with 5.25 crore on Monday and a rise to 6 crore on Tuesday, helped by discounted ticket prices. Wednesday brought in 4.25 crore in India, and day seven reportedly added 3.72 crore, the lowest figure of its run so far.

Worldwide, the film reportedly stood at a gross of 64.35 crore after six days, with 59.35 crore gross coming from India and around 5 crore from overseas markets. That makes it the seventh biggest grosser of Sidharth's career worldwide, just 99 lakh behind Marjaavaan at 65.34 crore. Along the way it has pushed Thank God out of his top ten, and Param Sundari, at 89.72 crore, is the next big target.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh called the film a success story, pointing to strong support in the mass circuits even on weekdays. He flagged week two as crucial, with Drishyam The Conclusion arriving in cinemas, though the Friday, October 2 holiday should keep The Vvaan going. The film has already held its own against releases like Nani's The Paradise and the Avengers Endgame Encore re-release.

Much of the buzz around The Vvaan comes from how it shows the festival of Chhath Puja. A viral video from Muzaffarpur in Bihar shows viewers taking off their footwear before walking into the theatre. The story follows Rishi, a rational engineer from Mumbai played by Sidharth, and his wife Mamta, played by Tamannaah, as they travel to his ancestral village of Devanchal in Bihar around the time of Chhath Puja.
