# Sukumar wins Best Screenplay National Award for Pushpa 2: The Rule

Director Sukumar has won the Best Screenplay Writer award at the 72nd National Film Awards for Pushpa 2: The Rule. It is a big national honour for the filmmaker behind the Pushpa franchise, and a proud moment for one report.

Pushpa 2 reportedly took home a second award as well. Deepali Noor and Sheetal Sharma are said to have been named Best Costume Designer for their work on the film. Production house Mythri Movie Makers marked Sukumar's win on social media. They praised his writing and his vision for bringing the world of Pushpa to life.

President Droupadi Murmu presented the awards at a ceremony in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat. The event reportedly took place on September 22, 2026. Reports say this is the first time in 72 years that the National Film Awards were given out anywhere other than Delhi.

Other big names were also honoured. Article 370 is reported to have won Best Feature Film, and Yami Gautam won Best Actress in a Leading Role for the same film. Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan reportedly shared the Best Actor award. Srikanth, the Rajkummar Rao film based on the life of industrialist Srikanth Bolla, won Best Hindi Film. Producer Bhushan Kumar and director Tushar Hiranandani went on stage to accept it. Veteran actor Anant Nag reportedly received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024.

The winners also get prize money. According to reports, Swarna Kamal winners receive Rs 3 lakh each and Rajat Kamal winners receive Rs 2 lakh each. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award comes with a Swarna Kamal, a shawl and Rs 15 lakh.

For Sukumar, the award adds to a huge run for Pushpa 2. The film reportedly earned around Rs 1,800 crore worldwide, with about Rs 800 crore coming from its Hindi version alone. Fans are now waiting to hear what Sukumar will direct next.
