> The Comrade Kalyan trailer shows Sree Vishnu as a theatre owner on the Andhra Pradesh and Odisha border whose love story gets pulled into a Naxalite and police conflict, ahead of its October 9 release.

The trailer for Sree Vishnu's Comrade Kalyan is out, and it shows a film that begins as a breezy comedy before sliding into far more serious ground. Directed by Janakiram Marella, the period entertainer is set to reach theatres on October 9.

The story unfolds in the early 1990s on the border between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Sree Vishnu plays Kalyan, who runs a local theatre and leads a fairly simple life. That changes when he falls for Sitara, an Odia girl played by Mahima Nambiar. Reports say the language gap between the two becomes a running source of both laughs and trouble.

The trailer does not stay light for long. As it moves along, the romance gets caught up in a clash between Naxalites and the police, giving the film a tense backdrop. The cuts swing between quirky humour and this darker thread, which gives the project a flavour of its own. Sree Vishnu's comic timing, sharp one liners and trademark way with dialogue carry much of the footage.

Mahima Nambiar is reportedly making her Telugu debut with this film. Kalyan's mother is said to be a devoted Nandamuri Balakrishna fan, and reports say Radhika Sarathkumar plays the part in what looks like a standout role. The supporting cast reportedly includes Satya, Sudharshan, Shine Tom Chacko and Upendra Limaye.

Kona Venkat presents the film, which is produced by Venkata Krishna Karnati and Seetha Karnati, reportedly under the Skanda Vahana Motion Pictures LLP banner. Vijai Bulganin has composed the music, and songs such as Oh Oriya Pilla and Intha Istama are said to be drawing attention already.

With comedy, romance, emotion and action packed into a period setting, Comrade Kalyan is shaping up as a different kind of outing for Sree Vishnu. Fans will not have long to wait, with the film arriving in cinemas this Friday, October 9.
