> Ticket sales for Sree Vishnu's Comrade Kalyan rose by more than 61 percent on its second day, and the makers say the comedy has grossed Rs 12.01 crore worldwide in two days.

Sree Vishnu's Comrade Kalyan picked up sharply on Saturday, its second day in theatres. Ticket sales rose by more than 61 percent over the opening day.

The makers said the film has grossed Rs 12.01 crore worldwide across its first two days. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana alone, a distributor estimates the gross has crossed Rs 5 crore, and the film's share from the two Telugu states reportedly stands at Rs 2.8 crore.

That distributor called it a decent start but said the film still has to hold its pace, and that the next few days will decide how it fares. Blending intense Naxalism with humour was a risky idea, in the distributor's view, and Sree Vishnu's name is what is bringing people in. The same trade voice credited the actor with a real flair for comedy, while adding that he needs strong scripts to keep winning.

Reviews have been mixed, though the humour has found its audience.

With Sunday under way and the Dasara holidays starting, the film now has a festive stretch ahead of it.

Janakiram Marella directs, with Mahima Nambiar as the female lead. Kona Venkat presents the film, which Venkata Krishna Karnati and Seetha Karnati produce. Radhika Sarathkumar, Shine Tom Chacko, Upendra Limaye and Satya make up the supporting cast.
