# Sonali Bendre tells Madhuri Dixit she chose love, not a fight, with cancer

Sonali Bendre never looked at her cancer as a war she had to win. Talking to Madhuri Dixit, the actor said she chose to understand her body and treat it with love instead.

The two spoke at the grand premiere of Kon Honar Crorepati, the Marathi version of Kaun Banega Crorepati, which Madhuri hosts. Speaking in Marathi, Madhuri praised Sonali's courage and said viewers had watched a new, stronger Sonali emerge after the illness.

Sonali gently questioned the word "overcome". "At that time, the actual intention was not to overcome it. It was to understand why this was happening and what I could learn from it," she said. She added that the experience taught her a great deal.

For her, words like fighting and overcoming set a person against their own body. She said such talk carries a sense of negativity, and pointed out that cancer cells are also a person's own cells, so fighting them means fighting yourself.

Love was not an easy choice when her body was hurting. "It's very difficult to love something that was giving you so much pain. But I think that's probably what worked for me," Sonali said.
