Singer Sona Mohapatra has backed the makers of Dhurandhar: The Revenge for entering Shashwat Sachdev's music in nine categories at the 2027 Grammy Awards. Indian musicians, she said, "have no choice" but to look abroad.

She made her case in a video posted on social media, after users online asked why Indian artists keep chasing validation from the West. Sona said her feed was full of Grammy submissions and wished everyone luck, naming the band Agam, Hargun Kaur, Rashmeet Kaur and Shashwat's work on the film.

Her argument was blunt. At home, she said, music is "mostly treated like background score to somebody else's importance," and the people who make it are often the least important in the room at a launch, with Dhurandhar an exception she had heard of.

Producers, award shows and the wider industry all came in for criticism. Sona said singers, lyricists and composers are often left out of a film's promotions while comedians and influencers get more attention, adding that she had "lived this comedy of errors first-hand."

She signed off by urging fellow musicians to go to the Grammys and win. Her hope, she said, is an India where classical, folk, indie, regional and film music all have "a credible, respected platform of its own."

Shashwat's name has gone in for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, the category where most film soundtracks compete. Kanhaiyya and Jaan Se Guzarte Hai are entered in Best Global Music Performance, and Aari Aari in Best Asian Pop Music Performance.

The remaining songs sit in mainstream categories: Phir Se in Best Song Written for Visual Media, Jaiye Sajana in Pop Duo/Group Performance, Vaari Jaavan in Best Dance/Electronic Recording, Hum Pyaar Karne Wale in Best Remixed Recording and Destiny (Mann Atkeya) in Best Rap Performance.
