# Shruti Haasan says she came close to marriage, and is open to adopting a child

Shruti Haasan has spoken openly about marriage, companionship and her wish to become a mother one day, and her answers were as candid as fans have come to expect from her.

The actor said she has no problem with the idea of marriage itself. What she resists is the pressure to tick the box. "I really like companionship. But, I have lived my whole life in a way of not fitting in a box," she said, adding that she is traditional about some things and conservative about others, but only because nobody pushed her into those views.

Her real objection is to the paperwork and the show around a wedding. She questioned who the lavish spending is actually for, and said she would rather a couple choose each other every day than stay together because of a document. "I enjoy that my partner and I pick each other everyday, but not because of the paperwork. That's my fear, otherwise, not really," she said.

She also revealed that she has been close to taking the step. "I came close to marriage and it didn't really scare me that much when push came to shove," she said. On the money side she was blunt but not judgmental, saying she does not want to shame big spenders, though the scale of it bothers her, and that the money could go to charity instead.

On motherhood, Shruti said she has already discussed the subject with her gynaecologist and told her she is open to adopting. "I would really love to just be a mum, but I would also like to try it as an extension of myself in some biological way," she said, leaving both doors open.

Reports say the conversation took place on a podcast, and the same remarks have been carried widely. Shruti was last seen in the Tamil action thriller Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring Rajinikanth. She is reportedly next set to appear in the pan Indian drama Aakasamlo Oka Tara opposite Dulquer Salmaan. She was earlier in a relationship with illustrator Santanu Hazarika, which the two confirmed had ended in May 2024.
