> Salman Khan's war drama Maatrubhumi, earlier titled Battle of Galwan, will reportedly be viewed by the CBFC this week, and the makers are said to be eyeing a Diwali or Christmas release this year.

Salman Khan's long-delayed war drama Maatrubhumi could finally be moving towards a release date. The film is reportedly going before the Central Board of Film Certification this week. The team is said to be weighing a Diwali or Christmas release later this year.

Apoorva Lakhia directs the film, and Chitrangda Singh stars alongside Salman. People said to be close to the project reportedly say that nothing else about the film has changed ahead of the censor viewing. They also point out that Salman's films have usually been made for family audiences, so the makers do not expect the board to raise serious objections. Once the certificate comes through, the plan is said to be to lock a date.

Maatrubhumi has been in the news for a while, mostly because of its new name and its pushed back release. The project was earlier called Battle of Galwan and is reportedly based on the 2020 clash between Indian and Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley. It reportedly went through reshoots after objections to the anti-China stance of its first version, which led to the title change and the delay.

Some recent reports claimed that the Information and Broadcasting Ministry had cleared the revised version. Those close to the film reportedly say the government never stopped the film at any stage, and they call the talk of a halt speculation.

No official release date has been announced yet. For now, all attention is on this week's CBFC viewing. If the film clears it without trouble, the makers are expected to announce a date soon after. Salman's fans have been waiting a long time for this war drama, and the next few days should show whether it lands in this year's festive season.
