# Salman Khan says his nana did not speak to Salim Khan for five years

Salman Khan has opened up about a five-year silence in his own family. On the latest Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 20, the host said his maternal grandfather refused to speak to his father, screenwriter Salim Khan, after Salim married his mother, Salma Khan, also known as Sushila Charak.

The remark came while he praised housemates for standing up against violence inside the house. His parents had an interfaith love marriage, but Salman made it clear that religion had nothing to do with the rift. What upset his nana was that his daughter was marrying a good-looking man who wanted to be an actor and worked in films.

Salman said his grandfather worried about how his daughter would live in that world. So he stayed away from Salim for five full years.

Things changed only after Sohail Khan was born. Salman recalled his grandfather coming from Mahim to Bandra with a box of jalebis to see the family. There, he admitted he had made a big mistake and had missed watching his grandchildren grow up.

According to Salman, his nana carried that regret until he died, sorry to have lost those years with the children and with a man Salman called the "nicest man on earth". He also shared the one rule his grandfather gave his mother about visiting: she was welcome any time, but never after a fight.

Salim Khan and Salma are parents to Salman, Arbaaz and Sohail, and to daughters Alvira Agnihotri and Arpita Sharma.
