> New Ramayana posters show Lord Rama saying goodbye to King Dashrath before his exile, and actor Gulshan Devaiah has backed the film's global plans, using RRR's success in the US as his example.

The makers of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana have released new posters built around Lord Rama's goodbye to his father, King Dashrath, just before the prince sets out from Ayodhya into exile.

In one image, Rama kneels while the king blesses him. A second frame shows the prince scattering ashes into a river, with green foliage all around him. The team shared the posters on social media and described the moment as a father held to his word and a son held to his duty, neither of them aware they were parting for good.

Two character looks came out before these. Lara Dutta plays Queen Kaikeyi, dressed in royal costume and heavy jewellery, and Sheeba Chadha appears as Manthara, holding a staff. In the epic, Manthara talks Kaikeyi into calling in two old promises from Dashrath: the throne for her son Bharata and 14 years of exile for Rama.

Ranbir Kapoor plays Rama in the two-part film, with Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana.

Gulshan Devaiah, praised for playing the villain King Kulashekara in Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1, has spoken up for the project. In an interview, the actor said the film is made for Indians abroad and for audiences outside the diaspora as well. He added that wanting the whole world to watch an Indian film is a fine goal.

He used SS Rajamouli's RRR as his example. Gulshan said RRR did not really work for him, but he was happy it did so well in the US, because it gave Indian cinema a foot in the door. People should support such films "whether you like it or not", he said.

On the Rama role itself, he said it comes with big expectations. A whole generation still has warm memories of Arun Govil in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan, and he said viewers will measure the new film against that old feeling.
