> Rajpal Yadav thanked the Supreme Court for hearing his side after 14 years, as the court sent his cheque-bounce case to mediation and the actor questioned the Rs 22 crore claim against him.

Rajpal Yadav has thanked the Supreme Court for letting him put forward his side in his cheque-bounce case, saying it took 14 years to get that chance. The actor said he would follow whatever the court orders, at any cost.

The court has sent the matter to mediation. It did so after noting that Yadav had deposited Rs 2 crore as directed, paid in two parts of Rs 1.15 crore and Rs 85 lakh. The trial court was also told to release his passport, with conditions, so he can travel abroad for work.

The dispute is with M/s Murli Projects Pvt Ltd and goes back to a loan from 2010. Seven cheques meant to repay it later bounced.

Yadav took issue with the size of the claim. A Rs 5 crore matter could have been settled, he said, but the figure being pressed now is Rs 22 crore. He also questioned the interest, pointing out that banks lend at 12 to 15 per cent while the rate charged here was four to five times higher. He asked whether the company was even allowed to give the loan in 2010, and whether it was a Non-Banking Financial Company.

Asked about the court's remark that drama does not work in court, the actor joked that 42 years of acting had left him with his fill of it. Whoever is creating drama, he added, should be exposed.

Mediation is where he now plans to argue his case, and he said he will accept any decision reached after both sides are heard. "I am a worshipper of dialogue," he said, adding that the fight will go on until the full truth comes out.
