> Priyadarshan says he declined Akshay Kumar's offer to direct Bhagam Bhag 2 because he will not make a sequel without a better story, and that he does not think Hera Pheri 3 will ever be made.

Priyadarshan does not expect Hera Pheri 3 ever to reach the screen. He also revealed that he said no when Akshay Kumar asked him to direct Bhagam Bhag 2.

The filmmaker directed the original Hera Pheri in 2000, but he would not explain in detail why he left the third film. "That has a lot of other complications, too many complications. I'd need chapters and chapters to talk about it," he said. Asked whether the film would ever happen, he kept it short: "I don't think it will ever get made."

He turned down Bhagam Bhag 2, the sequel to the 2006 comedy, because of a firm personal rule. Priyadarshan will not make a part two unless its story beats the first film. He pointed to the Terminator series, where the second film was better than the original. In his view, most sequels simply cash in on the goodwill of the earlier film. "They are not making a film, they are making a project, and I am not interested in projects," he said. He added that other people are welcome to make sequels of his films.

Hera Pheri 3 has run into one problem after another since it was announced. Paresh Rawal walked out of the project last year, and Akshay Kumar sued him for Rs 25 crore. The actor later came back after the two sides settled their differences. In July, Priyadarshan confirmed he was no longer part of the film.

The rights to the franchise are also being fought over in court. Seven Arts International has gone to the Madras High Court. It argues that producer Firoz Nadiadwala bought only the rights to remake the Malayalam film Ramji Rao Speaking, and that those rights did not cover the sequels or allow a transfer to Cape of Good Films. Cape of Good Films, Akshay Kumar's production company, rejects this and says it alone holds the rights to Hera Pheri 3.
