Director Srikanth Odela and actor Nani have reportedly addressed the most criticised moment in The Paradise. In the scene, the mother of Kayadu Lohar's character calls her daughter a "single shot actress." The line was played for laughs, and viewers and critics called it objectifying and regressive. They also said it clashed with a film that presents itself as a story about dignity and standing up to oppression.

In a post-release chat with Nani, Odela reportedly admitted the moment did not work the way it was planned. He said the character, Subbalakshmi, or Subbu, grows up in a home with no food and no father, where reels and a camera are the family's only way to earn. As he tells it, the mother does not want this life for her daughter but has nothing better to offer.

Odela also explained what the line was meant to carry. The mother never believed in her daughter's dream of mainstream acting, especially after Subbu ran away to chase it and came back with nothing. The remark was supposed to show her regret that her daughter could have become a fine artiste if she had pursued acting properly. According to reports, he blamed the edit, saying a long film loses things, sometimes because of runtime and sometimes through the team's own oversight.

Nani agreed. He said the payoff looked strong on paper and the written setup was solid, but the link between the two broke during editing, so the payoff no longer made sense. He accepted that audience complaints about the heroine's track were fair, and said the team fell short in giving viewers the right context before the payoff arrived.

The debate comes as questions grow about Odela's next move. His planned film with Chiranjeevi reportedly is not happening anytime soon, and Nani has indicated it is not on the immediate cards. Odela's direction in The Paradise has drawn heavy trolling and a mixed response, so fans are watching to see which star backs him next.
