Nana Patekar was cremated with full state honours at his farmhouse in Donje village, Pune district, on Thursday night. The 75-year-old actor had died at his home in Goa only hours earlier. He suffered a cardiac arrest in the early hours of Thursday. Doctors tried CPR for around 45 minutes before declaring him dead at about 5:20 am. His son Malhar confirmed the news and said his father died of natural causes. Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar announced the state funeral, citing the actor's contribution to theatre and cinema. When the body landed in Pune from Goa, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis paid his respects at the airport. It was then taken to Donje. Large crowds of fans gathered at the farmhouse. Political leaders including Eknath Shinde, Sunetra Pawar, Chandrakant Patil, Madhuri Misal, Murlidhar Mohol and Ramdas Athawale attended. Actor Jackie Shroff was also there to say goodbye. Across the film industry, Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal and Manoj Bajpayee were among those who paid tribute on social media. Shah Rukh Khan worked with him in Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman and Shakti: The Power, and he remembered Patekar as his mentor, teacher, critic and friend.
