> At the Dorothy success meet, Mysskin called Karthik Subbaraj's earlier film Retro a 'mokka' film. He also defended Dorothy's climax and said it was better than every film he has made.

Filmmaker Mysskin used the success meet of Karthik Subbaraj's Dorothy to give a blunt verdict on the director's previous film, Retro. He called it a "mokka" film.

Recalling how he watched Retro before Dorothy, Mysskin said the film simply did not work for him. The long single-take dance sequence was the part he liked least, and he said he had no problem admitting it. His own assistants usually rave about Karthik's films, he added. Then he joked that he normally goes to the theatre to pray to God, but during Retro he really was praying.

Mysskin also stood up for the climax of Dorothy. If audiences can watch men slit each other's throats on screen, he said, there is nothing wrong with watching men kiss.

The film's young leads got warm praise from him. Mysskin said Rishikanth and Sananth had stepped into a tough space by choosing a film that breaks the usual hero template, with characters who question old ideas of masculinity and heroism. He called them real heroes on screen and off, and reminded them that the tag comes with a big responsibility. He gave Gen Z viewers credit for being ready to turn a film like Dorothy into a hit.

His biggest compliment came last. Mysskin said he feels Dorothy is better than all the films he has made. He had earlier put it next to Kadaisi Vivasayi and Kottukkaali among the best films he has watched in three decades.

Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, Dorothy stars Keerthy Suresh, Sananth and Rishikanth.
