# Lalit Prabhakar plays Ajmal Kasab in Rajkummar Rao's courtroom drama Prahaar

> Marathi actor Lalit Prabhakar plays 26/11 attacker Ajmal Kasab in Prahaar, Avinash Arun's courtroom drama starring Rajkummar Rao as prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, which opens in theatres on October 16.

The actor who is unrecognisable as Ajmal Kasab in the Prahaar trailer is Marathi star Lalit Prabhakar. Rajkummar Rao leads the film as special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, and Avinash Arun directs. The trailer was reportedly launched on September 29 at Mumbai's CSMT, one of the places hit in the 2008 attacks. Prahaar reaches theatres on October 16.

Kasab was the only attacker captured alive during 26/11. According to reports, the trailer covers key turns in the trial, including Kasab claiming he was 17 so he could seek protection under juvenile law. Sikandar Kher plays his defence lawyer, who pushes to move the case to a juvenile court.

Prabhakar has called it a very hard role. He said he first had to understand how Kasab thought, and then pick up the finer points of his language and the way he carried himself. The actor, reportedly 39, said he enjoys taking on parts nobody ever pictured him in, because he likes stretching his limits.

This is a sharp turn for him. He is best known for Anandi Gopal, where he played Gopalrao Joshi, and for Hampi and the horror comedy Zombivli, in which he had a double role. He is reportedly set to play poet Namdeo Dhasal in a biopic next.

Nikam says the film stays close to what happened in court and does not sensationalise anyone. He reportedly said the makers spent two and a half years on research and used real names, even the judge's. He also hopes the film helps people see that terror attacks should not be given a communal angle.

Nikam also spoke about his well known biryani remark from the trial. He said Kasab never asked for biryani and was never served any. He said the aim was to pull attention away from Kasab and back to the victims. Wamiqa Gabbi, Jaideep Ahlawat and Ashish Vidyarthi also star.
