> James Cameron has congratulated Marvel and the Russo Brothers after the re-release of Avengers: Endgame pushed it past Avatar to become the highest-grossing film of all time once again.

James Cameron has congratulated Marvel and the Russo Brothers after Avengers: Endgame took back the title of the highest-grossing film of all time. Its theatrical re-release carried it past Cameron's own Avatar.

Cameron posted artwork of Iron Man standing among the Na'vi of Pandora, with the line "You are one of the people." His message added, "Congratulations to Marvel and the #1 'Avengers: Endgame: Encore' for bringing moviegoers to the cinemas!"

Back in theatres as Avengers: Endgame: Encore, the 2019 film now carries extra footage linked to the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. Its worldwide gross stands above USD 2.93 billion, and Disney confirmed the record on October 4.

Both films have swapped the crown before. During its first run in 2019, Endgame passed Titanic and then Avatar, and Cameron marked the moment with artwork and the words "Oel ngati kameie. I see you Marvel." Avatar won the top spot back after a later re-release.

That time, the Russo Brothers replied with a post that read, "Passing the gauntlet back to you."
