> Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 opens in theatres on October 15, but early pre-sales for the Telugu dubbed version are well below what was expected for the sequel.

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 opens in theatres this Thursday, October 15, but the Telugu dubbed version is off to a slow start at the booking counters.

Reports say the Telugu version has collected only Rs 3 crore through pre-sales so far. That is a weak number for a sequel whose first part did huge business at the Tollywood box office. Bookings in India and overseas are both running well below expected levels.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film continues the story of Jailer, which released in 2023. Rajinikanth returns as Muthuvel Pandian, a calm family man who was once a feared jailer known as Tiger.

In the first film, Muthuvel brought down Varman's racket of stolen temple idols. Before the end, Varman warned him that a bigger network was operating behind the scenes. That unfinished threat sets up the sequel.

The songs and promotional material have not caught on with Telugu moviegoers. So the film's Telugu run now depends on the talk from its first shows.
