> Rajinikanth's Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, made Rs 1.61 crore from Kerala advance bookings in the first hour. The makers say it will release on about 800 screens in the state on October 15.

Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 made Rs 1.61 crore from advance ticket sales in Kerala within an hour of bookings opening, the makers said in an official update.

Nelson Dilipkumar directs the sequel, which reaches theatres on October 15. The makers have also said the film will play on about 800 screens across Kerala.

Mohanlal heads a strong Malayalam contingent in the cast. Suraj Venjaramoodu, Sunil Sugada, Sujith Shankar, Hakim Shah, Vineeth Thattil, Rajesh Madhavan, Mirnaa, Anna Reshma Rajan and Shamna Kasim are also part of it.

Kottayam Nazeer plays a key role in the film. He remembered meeting Rajinikanth on the sets and giving him a book of his own paintings. He said the superstar looked through the artwork with real excitement, put an arm around him and posed for a photo. Nazeer added that he has seen only his own scenes, during dubbing, and not the full film. He called the meeting a dream.

Not every early reading was glowing. Trade watchers on social media said the pre-sales are below the levels of Coolie and Leo, but they still called the numbers solid. They put the demand down to the sequel hype and Rajinikanth's star power, and noted that the film's promotional material had drawn little attention.
