Anupriya Nagar was only 21 when she turned down a job in Zurich and put her savings into a small spiritual film. That film, Hanuman Ansh, has become one of the biggest surprise hits of 2026, and her Rs 50 lakh bet may now bring her around Rs 50 crore.

Directed by Vishal Chaturvedi, Hanuman Ansh draws on the life and teachings of Neem Karoli Baba, with Shobhinaw Satyaa playing the spiritual leader. It reached theatres on August 7, 2026. Anupriya joined late, during post-production, when the makers needed money to finish the film.

Her road to the project started far from cinema. While studying economics in the UK, she was researching technology founders for a final-year university project and learned that Steve Jobs had visited Neem Karoli Baba's ashram at Kainchi Dham when he was very young. She has said this made her want to know the saint through his own journey, not through his famous visitors, and to share that journey with younger audiences.

A trip home to India for her visa process changed everything. She reportedly met producer Ragini Sona, who told her about the film, and she finished the 120-page script in one sitting. When she asked how she could help, she learned the shoot was over and post-production needed funds. She came on board as one of the producers, saying she felt the film chose her. Her father, she recalled, first wondered if she had lost her way.

The numbers are what have fans talking. Anupriya put in Rs 50 lakh, roughly one-third of a budget of a little over Rs 1.5 crore, using money she saved while studying abroad. According to reports, she will get a quarter of the profits, shared among four partners once the distributor's cut, expenses and taxes are paid.

With Hanuman Ansh reportedly grossing over Rs 300 crore worldwide, her final share could be close to Rs 50 crore, though the exact figures are still being worked out. For someone who never planned to enter the film industry, the gamble has paid off in a big way.
