> Ajay Devgn's Drishyam 3 reaches theatres on October 2 with a climax that breaks from the Malayalam original, the best advance bookings of his career and a mixed early critical response.

Ajay Devgn's Drishyam The Conclusion, also called Drishyam 3, is set to reach theatres on October 2 as the final chapter of the crime thriller franchise. Abhishek Pathak returns as writer and director. The earlier Hindi films, released in 2015 and 2022, were official remakes of the Malayalam hits led by Mohanlal, but this one breaks from that pattern.

The makers have confirmed that the third part has its own script and its own climax and does not copy the Malayalam Drishyam 3. Ajay has said the two films cannot be compared, and that this one ties up every loose end to close the story for good. Tabu, Shriya Saran, Rajat Kapoor and Ishita Dutta return, and Prakash Raj and Jaideep Ahlawat are reportedly the fresh additions to the cast.

In the new story, Tabu's Meera Deshmukh is still grieving her son and cannot accept that Vijay Salgaonkar and his family went free. Her husband, played by Rajat Kapoor, presses Crime Branch chief Rajveer Singh Tomar, played by Jaideep Ahlawat, to reopen the case, and Vijay is cornered once again. Prakash Raj plays a top lawyer, Indrajith Shetty.

The buzz is showing at the ticket counter. Advance bookings for Drishyam 3 are the best of Ajay's career so far, and reports say they have already crossed Rs 20 crore in India. The first two Hindi films reportedly earned Rs 93 crore and over Rs 239 crore across their runs.

Trade voices are reportedly upbeat about the change in direction. Critic Sumit Kadel reportedly said that leaving the original behind frees the film from the remake label, and Rohit Jaiswal reportedly felt the new ending is driving the hype. Posts going viral on social media have praised the climax, and one of them gave the film 4.5 stars.

Not every verdict is glowing. One early review rated it 3 out of 5. It praised the brisk pace, Ajay's intense performance and Amar Mohile's background score, but said the family drama gets pushed aside and the final twist relies too much on convenience. The same review said Inspector Gaitonde, played by Kamlesh Sawant, brings plenty of humour to the first half.
