> Karthik Subbaraj's Dorothy has reportedly earned 6.08 crore net in six days and is close to passing Rishikanth's previous film Modha Rathiri, with a Telugu version reportedly due on October 2.

Karthik Subbaraj's Dorothy is holding steady at the box office in its first week, and it is reportedly closing in on the India total of Rishikanth's previous release, Modha Rathiri. The drama stars Keerthy Suresh, Rishikanth and Sananth, and it opened in theatres on September 25.

Reports say the film made 0.83 crore net in India on its first Wednesday, its sixth day, with occupancy of around 31%. That reportedly takes its domestic net total to 6.08 crore. The daily figures have stayed in a narrow band all week. Its best days so far were the second and third, at 1.25 crore and 1.4 crore.

Modha Rathiri reportedly ended its theatrical run in India with 7.7 crore net. Dorothy is now less than 2 crore short of that figure, so one strong weekend could be enough to pass it. Modha Rathiri had a limited run in theatres, but it has found new fans since it started streaming on Netflix.

Both films have drawn warm reactions and got people talking. Singer Chinmayi Sripaada posted her reviews on Instagram. She called Dorothy stunning and urged her followers to go and watch Modha Rathiri. Its director, Raja Karuppasamy, replied to thank her.

Dorothy is set in rural Tamil Nadu in the 1990s. It follows two inseparable childhood friends, Karthi and Subbu, who grow up surrounded by caste, violence and toxic masculinity, until a woman named Dorothy changes their lives. Ilaiyaraaja composed the music, which reportedly marks his first film with Karthik Subbaraj. Guneet Monga Kapoor, Achin Jain and Jyoti Deshpande produced the film.

Telugu audiences will reportedly get to see it soon, with a Telugu version due on October 2 backed by Rana Daggubati. Rishikanth is known for supporting roles in films such as Coolie and Indian 2. He recently said that real masculinity means acceptance, softness and respect for others. He is also set to appear in Indian 3 whenever that film goes on floors.
