# Dorothy box office: Keerthy Suresh drama earns about Rs 3.5 crore in opening weekend

Keerthy Suresh's new film Dorothy has finished its first weekend in theatres with a collection of roughly Rs 3.5 crore. Karthik Subbaraj directs this independent drama, and Sananth and Rishikanth play the other key roles. Critics and audiences have been kind to the film, but the early numbers show that this goodwill has not yet become big ticket sales.

Reports differ on exactly how to read the figure. One estimate puts the India net total after three days at Rs 3.55 crore. Another says the film grossed about Rs 3.5 crore in Tamil Nadu over the weekend. Going by the reported day-wise numbers, Dorothy opened with Rs 90 lakh and added Rs 1.25 crore on its second day. It then climbed to Rs 1.4 crore on Sunday, September 28, about 55 percent more than its first day.

This weekend total has reportedly already placed Dorothy among the ten highest-grossing films of Keerthy's career since the pandemic. Reports say it has passed the lifetime earnings of Good Luck Sakhi, Vaashi and Raghu Thatha, and is now closing in on Revolver Rita. Sarkaru Vaari Paata is still her biggest earner of that period.

The film has drawn plenty of attention away from the box office too. It premiered at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival, and several celebrities have praised it publicly. It also sparked debate online after a kiss scene went viral, with some social media users questioning Karthik Subbaraj's choices. Even so, for a film with such well-known names attached, the opening is reportedly seen as below expectations.

Dorothy is set in rural Tamil Nadu. It follows two inseparable friends who grow up in a world shaped by caste, violence and toxic masculinity. Their lives change when a woman named Dorothy arrives and her kindness pushes back against that world. Sikhya Entertainment and Jio Studios produce the film.

Telugu audiences are the next test. The Telugu version is reportedly set to release this week. How it performs, and how well the film holds up on weekdays, will decide how far Dorothy can go at the box office.
