# Dino Morea arrested by Mumbai EOW in Rs 65.54 crore Mithi River desilting case

Bollywood actor Dino Morea has been arrested by the Mumbai Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in the alleged Mithi River desilting scam. He was taken into custody on October 2 after close to eight hours of questioning at his home in Bandra. This was not his first time before the agency in this case.

Morea and his brother Santino Rocco Morea were first questioned by the EOW in May 2025. Investigators have cited phone records that point to contact with people linked to the case. The agency is also looking at business ties between the Morea family and the accused. Santino and Punita Kadam, wife of arrested accused Ketan Kadam, were directors of UBO Ridez Private Limited, and money moving between the Kadams and Santino is under scrutiny.

The case is about alleged financial irregularities, inflated tenders and corrupt practices in the desilting of Mumbai's Mithi River. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is said to have lost Rs 65.54 crore. Ketan Kadam, who was arrested earlier, is among the accused, and investigators are checking how his desilting firm, Woder India LLP, secured civic contracts. The EOW has also arrested Jayesh Joshi, who is linked to Mumbai-based industrial product maker Virgo Specialties Private Limited.

According to the EOW, some BMC officials went to Kochi in October 2020 to buy desilting equipment from Matprop Technical Services Private Limited. Tenders floated later allegedly carried specifications that matched Matprop's machines, leaving contractors with little choice. Contractors who approached Matprop were allegedly pointed towards Joshi and Kadam, who then rented out the equipment at inflated rates. Investigators also claim that records of the silt removed were manipulated, pushing up payments to contractors.

The Enforcement Directorate has been probing the matter too, and had earlier searched Morea's residence along with other locations linked to people under scrutiny. Reports say a Special Investigation Team was formed in August 2024 after the allegations first came up. Morea has not been convicted of any wrongdoing, and the EOW investigation is continuing.
