# Dhanush's D56 goes on floors in Madurai with Vadivelu and SJ Suryah

Dhanush has started work on his 56th film. The project, going by the working title D56, went on floors in Madurai with a traditional pooja ceremony, and the makers are aiming for a summer 2027 release. Tamizharasan Pachamuthu, known for Lubber Pandhu, is directing.

The cast is packed. Vadivelu, SJ Suryah, Preity Mukundan and Uriyadi fame Vijay Kumar join Dhanush on the film. The reunion with SJ Suryah stands out, since he played one of the strongest villains opposite Dhanush in Raayan. Reports say this is the first time Vadivelu is sharing the screen with Dhanush. Sai Abhyankkar is composing the music.

Sithara Entertainments is producing the film, with Primark Productions reportedly on board as co-producer. Telugu audiences already know Dhanush well from SIR, directed by Venky Atluri, and Kubera, directed by Sekhar Kammula.

Reports describe D56 as a raw, violent rural gangster drama set in Madurai. Dhanush is said to play the gangster at its centre, with Vijay Kumar as the villain and SJ Suryah in an important police role. At the pooja, held at a Karuppasamy temple, Dhanush reportedly offered an 18-foot sickle to the deity as fans crowded around him.

Vadivelu reportedly spoke at the launch about why the two had never worked together. He said a misunderstanding, caused by a third person, had kept them apart, and that he had now got the chance to work with Dhanush after a long gap.

D56 joins a busy slate for the actor. Dhanush is teaming up again with Mari Selvaraj for a film with music by AR Rahman, and he will also lead Thamizh Murugan, directed by Vetrimaaran. His next release, OM: Chapter 1, with Mammootty, Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela and Naseeruddin Shah, has moved from its October 16 date and is waiting for a new one.
