# Chaitanya Reddy accuses Puri Jagannadh and Charmee over Double iSmart losses

Producer and distributor Chaitanya Reddy of Prime Show Entertainment has levelled serious allegations against director Puri Jagannadh and producer Charmee over Double iSmart. She says she and her husband, producer Niranjan Reddy, lost around Rs 35 crore after picking up the film's theatrical rights. Some reports put the loss as high as Rs 40 crore.

Double iSmart was produced by Puri Jagannadh and Charmee and starred Ram Pothineni in the lead. The film reached theatres in August 2024 and failed at the box office. It was reportedly pitched as the sequel to the hit iSmart Shankar, and Prime Show is said to have paid a large sum for the rights.

According to Reddy, the trouble started before release. She reportedly set a condition that Puri settle pending financial issues linked to Liger and other matters ahead of the film's arrival, but those issues stayed open and morning shows on release day were delayed. She claims Puri and Charmee then made emotional appeals to get the film into theatres, promising future films with the couple and a way to make good on any losses if Double iSmart flopped. Reports say these assurances were only spoken and the agreement was never rewritten, despite her asking.

Once the film tanked, Reddy alleges the pair went silent. Charmee stopped taking her calls, she says, and Puri changed his phone number. The couple eventually tracked them down and met them in Mumbai to talk about the losses.

At that meeting, Reddy claims, Charmee offered to make another film for the Prime Show banner. But the offer came with a demand for Rs 15 crore as remuneration and a 50 percent share of the profits, along with a story of their choosing, according to reports. Reddy says these terms were nothing like the compensation she had been promised.

The allegations rest entirely on Reddy's own account of events. Puri Jagannadh, meanwhile, is reportedly waiting on the release of Slumdog, which stars Vijay Sethupathi.
