> Tanushree Dutta has stood by her 'evil dead' remark on Nana Patekar's death after the All Indian Cine Workers Association condemned it, while Amitabh Bachchan paid tribute to the actor from the Kaun Banega Crorepati set.

Tanushree Dutta has stood by her "evil dead" remark on the death of Nana Patekar, even after the All Indian Cine Workers Association condemned it. Tributes to the veteran actor kept coming in, among them one from Amitabh Bachchan.

Nana died at his home in Goa on Thursday, October 8. That day Tanushree posted an Instagram video. In it she said she would focus on an event in Lucknow, and she used the words "evil dead". The clip cut off just after a brief "condolences to the family".

AICWA president Suresh Shyamlal Gupta called the post objectionable, insensitive and shameful, and said the actor was using the moment for cheap publicity. "You should have kept a check on your tongue," the association said. It also pointed to Nana's Padma Shri and his Naam Foundation work with the families of distressed farmers.

Tanushree answered the criticism in another video. "When I say evil is dead, I mean it. For me, that was my reality," she said. She added that people may know the same person in different ways, but nobody could question what she went through.

The two have a long history. In 2018 she accused Nana of sexual harassment on the sets of the 2008 film Horn Ok Pleassss, and the allegations became central to India's #MeToo movement. Nana denied them. The case was closed in 2019 for lack of evidence, and in 2025 a Mumbai magistrate court dismissed the proceedings because the complaint had been filed past the legal time limit.

On the Kaun Banega Crorepati set, Amitabh Bachchan called Nana an incomparable artist, friend and social worker. He remembered Nana's season 16 appearance, when the actor gave his prize money to help farmers in Maharashtra villages hit by poor rainfall. "A personal salute to you, Nana. And a respectful bow to your art," Big B said.
