Amala Paul says she would probably not repeat one of the boldest choices of her career. Looking back at Aadai, the 2019 Tamil film in which she appeared nude for key scenes, the actor said she does not think she would take up such a role today. "If you ask me to do an Aadai right now, I don't think I would do it," she said.

The film, which reportedly reached Telugu audiences as Aame, was written and directed by Rathna Kumar. It follows Kamini, a carefree young television journalist who wakes up alone and without clothes in an abandoned building after a night of partying. She then fights to find a way out while piecing together what happened the night before.

According to reports, Amala spent close to two months understanding how the team planned to handle the subject before she signed on. Her main worry was whether the nudity would serve the story or become the story itself. "I needed to trust the director and the cinematographer," she reportedly said, adding that the crew kept only a few people on set so she felt at ease. She also admitted she was scared about her image back then and did not want to be stereotyped into more such films.

Speaking at a conclave in Kochi on Tuesday, the actor reportedly described herself as "crazy" when it comes to picking scripts. She said she never likes repeating something she has already done and is always hungry for different kinds of roles, and that she feels grateful unusual characters keep coming her way.

On the work front, Amala was last seen on the big screen in 2024 in The Goat Life, directed by Blessy, alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran and Jimmy Jean-Louis. Reports say the film won critical praise and did well at the box office. She was also part of the Malayalam psychological drama Level Cross with Asif Ali and Sharaf U Dheen, directed by Arfaz Ayub. Her next project is yet to be announced.
